๐10 Romantasy Books That Ruined Me (In the Best Way)๐
Some books end...and you move on.
Others? They grab you by the throat, stomp on your soul, sprinkle in a bit of betrayal, and leave you emotionally unwell (but like… in a good way). These are those books. The ones that left me spiraling, swooning, and begging for more pages.
So if you're in the mood for pain, passion, and powerful plot twists, here are 10 romantasy reads that wrecked me beautifully.
1. A Court of Mist and Fury – Sarah J. Maas
Let’s just say if you know, you know. Chapter 55 lives rent-free in my brain. Rhysand and Feyre's journey? Glorious, gut-wrenching growth. This book rewired my soul.
2. King of Battle and Blood by Scarlett St. Clair
Enemies-to-lovers, but make it bloodstained. Isolde and Adrian? Iconic. The tension is off the charts and the steam...let’s just say I needed a moment (or twelve).
3. Queen of Myth and Monsters by Scarlett St. Clair
This sequel raised the stakes and the spice. Power struggles, mythic undertones, and a heroine learning to rule both herself and a kingdom? Obsessed. And yes, Adrian still owns me.
4. Phantasma by Kaylie Smith
A deadly competition. A haunted house. A ghost you absolutely should not be falling for—but might anyway. *cough cough* Blackwood... Obsessed.
5. Assistant to the Villain by Hannah Nicole Maehrer
A literal rom-com with knives. It’s hilarious, adorable, and full of stabby flirtation. Also, shoutout to Kingsley, the snarky frog with signs—my emotional support amphibian.
6. Apprentice to the Villain by Hannah Nicole Maehrer
The stakes are higher, the romance is deeper, and the betrayal?? Don’t talk to me. The slow unraveling of secrets between Evie and the Villain had me screaming into my pillow. The Nearing August 3rd for book three has me on the edge of my se
7. The Coven by Harper L. Woods
This one is dark, seductive, and steeped in witchy tension. Think forbidden magic, shadowy men with sharp teeth, and female rage wrapped in velvet. Perfect for anyone craving danger and desire in equal measure at.
8. Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros
Dragons. Violence. Romantic tension so sharp it could slice steel. I went into this book thinking I’d casually enjoy it—nope. It launched itself into my top reads. Violet and Xaden are EVERYTHING. (though I have to say I am a resident Ridoc girl in my heart)
9. Unravel Me by Tahereh Mafi
The way Warner walked onto the page and rearranged my heart? I was NOT prepared. This series is poetic, emotional, and full of layered character development and psychological depth. I still think about some of these scenes daily.
10. Quicksilver by Callie Hart
My current read—and I’m already obsessed. It's giving morally grey chaos, tension so thick you could cut it, and a dark heroine who might set the world on fire just to feel something. Full thoughts pending, but this one's already messing with my head in the best way.
If you’re still reading, congrats—we probably share a brain. These books gave me all the dark romantic feels I crave. Whether it’s trauma bonding, villainous love interests, or stabby slow burns, they live rent-free in my head.
Got a romantasy that wrecked you (and you’re still thankful)? Drop it in the comments—I clearly need more heartbreak on my shelf.
